Backyard Patio Garden

After a new stone patio was installed in this backyard, some established plantings were incorporated into a larger redesign. The inspiration for this area was a traditional English cottage-style garden, creating a lush habitat for pollinators and humans alike.

A year later, this bed is filling in nicely with a range of native and sun-loving perennials. Seen here in mid-summer, after nearly two months of drought the garden is holding its own - thanks to a careful selection of tough perennials.

A portion of the patio garden, which gets full sun most of the day. Seen here is a close of up perennials that enjoy the baking sun - “Phenomenal” lavender, Eastern purple coneflower, and daylily play nicely together and give the pollinators a variety of options.

Seen here in mid-spring, the patio garden is showing off with a beautiful collection of bearded iris, “Dark Towers” beardtongue, and allium. This garden is visible through a large picture window, so it was important that it maintain interest in all seasons.
